maui is the top of Tourism Holdings Limited's range, above Britz and Mighty. New vehicles enter the fleet as maui first, so you drive the newest stock. Every model has an onboard ensuite shower and toilet, automatic transmission and linen as standard, across ten depots from Sydney to Broome.
maui sits at the top of Tourism Holdings Limited's (THL) three-brand range in Australia: Mighty for budget, Britz in the middle, maui as the premium tier. New stock enters the fleet as a maui, so you get first use of the newest vehicles before they pass down to Britz and Mighty. Standard maui motorhomes run under about two years old; every model has an onboard toilet and shower, automatic transmission, full linen and a kitchen kit as standard. THL is headquartered in Auckland and NZX-listed, and bought maui in 1988. It runs ten Australian depots, from Sydney and Melbourne to Cairns, Darwin, Broome and Alice Springs. The optional maui Elite upgrade guarantees a vehicle under one year old for AU$52/day, rising to AU$55/day from 1 April 2026.
Six fully self-contained models, all on Mercedes-Benz or Volkswagen turbo-diesel chassis with automatic gearboxes. The Ultima (2 berth) is the couples' van: a 1.91m x 1.78m double or two singles, full ensuite, plus a slide-out gas BBQ. No child seats, so no under-fours. The Ultima Plus adds a 2+1 berth for a child. The Beach (4 berth) is the looker, two 2.10m x 1.45m doubles and an apartment-feel front dining zone. The Cascade (4 berth) suits a family of four or two couples, with a drop-down ceiling bed over a convertible lounge. The River (6 berth) is the big-family rig on a Sprinter, three doubles and two living zones. The Sunset rounds out the 6-berth end, though it retires from 1 April 2027 with the River as the recommended replacement.
Ten depots, from Sydney to Broome, put the country's best drives within reach. Pick up an ensuite motorhome, point it at the coast or the centre, and go.
maui sits at the top of Tourism Holdings' three-tier fleet, above Britz (mid-range) and Mighty (budget). New motorhomes enter the fleet as maui first, so you get first use of the newest vehicles before they pass down to the cheaper brands. Every maui model is fully self-contained with an onboard toilet and shower, automatic transmission, linen and a full kitchen kit as standard. Expect to pay roughly AU$30 to AU$60 a day more than Britz for an equivalent van.
As standard, maui guarantees motorhomes under about two years old, the youngest stock in the Tourism Holdings fleet. For newer still, the optional maui Elite upgrade guarantees a vehicle under one year old, with better fittings like sat-nav and LCD screens. Elite costs AU$52 a day, rising to AU$55 a day from 1 April 2026. It's sold per model, so you'd book a Beach Elite or Cascade Elite rather than a separate vehicle range.
Standard liability (excess) is AU$7,500 per accident, covering damage to the van and third-party property. With no liability-reduction option taken, a AU$7,500 bond is debited to your card at pickup, plus a card surcharge of 3.1% (2.9% Amex). Taking a reduction pack such as The High Road, Value Pack or Platinum Pack drops the excess to nil on 2WD motorhomes and reduces the held deposit to a AU$250 authorisation. The bond is refunded in full within about 14 business days if the van comes back undamaged.
Yes. maui runs 10 depots across Australia: Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Cairns, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Hobart, Alice Springs and Broome. One-way hires are allowed with a tiered fee: AU$200 between the eastern and southern depots (Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide) and AU$300 on routes touching Darwin, Perth, Broome or Alice Springs. Note that Broome carries a separate AU$900 location fee, and the three northern depots close over the wet season, roughly December to March.
The standard rate covers unlimited kilometres on the 2WD motorhome fleet (4WD vehicles are capped at 300 km a day), full linen and bedding, bath and tea towels, a complete kitchen kit with crockery, cutlery, cookware and microwave, 24/7 roadside assistance, GST and basic vehicle liability cover with the bond. Extra drivers cost AU$4 a day, capped at AU$60 each, unless you take the Value or Platinum Pack, which includes them free along with the liability reduction.
