By season, a day typically cost A$185 from June to August and A$213 from September to November. We checked 591 live prices from 11 rental companies, picked up and returned in Melbourne. All prices are for two people, before excess cover and extras.
A campervan from Melbourne typically costs 185 Australian dollars a day in winter, from June to August. In autumn, March to May, it is 190. In summer, December to February, 209. And spring is the most expensive season: about 213 dollars a day, from September to November.
For a typical week of seven nights, that is 1,295 dollars in winter, 1,330 in autumn, 1,463 in summer, and 1,491 in spring.
Month by month, June is the cheapest month, at 172 dollars a day. October is the most expensive, at 235. The cheapest offer we found was just 73 dollars a day, in May.
Eleven rental companies offer campervans from Melbourne. The lowest typical price was at Awesome Campers, about 110 dollars a day, followed by Travellers Autobarn at 123, and Campervan Village at 127.
Three tips before you book. One: budget for zero excess cover, 45 to 90 dollars a day. With basic cover, a bond of 500 to 9,500 dollars is held on your card. Two: one-way trips cost more. Besides the cover that brings the excess to zero (A$45 to A$90 a day), the usual extras in our search were bedding at A$42, a kitchen kit at A$155 and a child seat at A$46 per rental. An additional driver costs A$3 to A$5 a day where it is charged. One-way rentals also cost more per day.

On 3 November 2026 we searched the CampervanPlanet booking engine for 7-night rentals for 2 people, picked up and returned in Melbourne, one sample week every month from November 2026 to October 2027: 601 prices for 56 vehicles from 11 rental companies. Price per day = rental price for 7 nights divided by 7, for every company. Typical = median price per day. Prices are the rental price shown in our search in Australian dollars; excess cover, extras, anything paid at pick-up and the bond are not included. Rooftop tents are excluded. One-way prices are for the weeks of 8 December 2026, 9 March 2027 and 8 June 2027. Prices change with dates and availability.
