Auto-Sleepershand-built British motorhomes since 1961

Founded in 1961 by the Trevelyan family and still based in the Cotswolds village of Willersey, Worcestershire, Auto-Sleepers has spent more than 60 years hand-building motorhomes and campervans in Britain. The range spans compact two-berth coachbuilts to family-friendly van conversions, built on Fiat Ducato, Peugeot Boxer and premium Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bases. Now part of the French Trigano group, the marque keeps its reputation for refined, well-insulated interiors and a reassuring six-year combined conversion and water-ingress warranty.

Who they are

About Auto-Sleepers

Auto-Sleepers traces its roots to 1961, when the Trevelyan family converted a Morris-based van into a motorhome for a family holiday to the South of France. A refined second model caught the eye of Bristol dealers Henlys, whose order for five more vehicles turned a family project into a fully fledged business. Through the 1970s the company built van-based conversions with elevating roofs before expanding into coachbuilt motorhomes, and it has been crafting vehicles at its Willersey base in the Worcestershire Cotswolds ever since. With more than 60 years of continuous British manufacturing behind it, Auto-Sleepers is now regarded as one of the country's most respected and enduring motorhome and campervan makers.

Every Auto-Sleeper is hand-built in the UK at the Willersey factory near Broadway, where the brand fits its own bodies and conversions onto established OEM van platforms rather than building chassis itself. The current range spans the Fiat Ducato (the core of the campervan and coachbuilt line-up) and the premium Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, with its 170bhp diesel and 9-speed automatic, while the Peugeot Boxer and Ford Transit Custom feature on older and run-out models. Construction centres on a scratch- and impact-resistant GRP body, lightweight AL-KO galvanised chassis on many coachbuilts, and Grade III thermal insulation for genuine all-season touring. That confidence in the build is backed by a 3-year conversion warranty plus an additional 3-year water-ingress warranty with no mileage limit, alongside factory servicing through an NCC-accredited in-house workshop.

Today Auto-Sleepers sits firmly at the premium end of the British market, with a range running from compact campervans around £70,000 to luxury Mercedes coachbuilts beyond £125,000, sold through Marquis Leisure's national dealer chain and a network of independent franchised dealers. Since January 2017 the company has been majority-owned by the French Trigano group via Auto-Sleepers Investments, which also owns Marquis, yet manufacturing and design remain firmly UK-based at Willersey. Its reputation is reinforced by consistent recognition, including Caravan and Motorhome Club Design Awards, Practical Motorhome's 2026 Best Motorhome for Couples for the Burford Duo, and strong owner-satisfaction results. Known for refined, comfort-led interiors and solid construction, Auto-Sleepers appeals above all to couples and discerning buyers who value craftsmanship, easy driveability and strong resale over budget or rugged off-grid adventure.

Where to find one

Finding an Auto-Sleepers

Auto-Sleepers are hand-built in Willersey, Worcestershire, and are sold and serviced through a UK-wide dealer network — they're primarily an ownership brand, so most are bought new or used rather than hired.

EnglandScotlandWalesNorthern IrelandMarquis dealershipsIndependent UK dealersWillersey factoryGoboony & Camplify hireSmall UK hire firms

Most Auto-Sleepers are bought new or used through around two dozen UK dealers (the Marquis chain plus independents); they're rarely in big rental fleets, so the best way to hire one is peer-to-peer platforms like Goboony or Camplify or a few small independent hire firms.

What sets them apart

The Auto-Sleepers ranges

Coachbuilt motorhomes (Broadway, Nuevo, Bourton & Burford)

Auto-Sleepers' core coachbuilt line-up spans the lighter, sub-3,500kg Broadway range and compact, award-winning Nuevo EK Plus on Fiat/Peugeot, up to the premium Mercedes-Benz Sprinter-based Bourton and 4-berth flagship Burford and Burford Duo. Layouts run from cosy 2-berth front lounges to fixed French and twin-single beds, with Alde central heating and 9-speed automatics on the top Mercedes models.

Campervans & van conversions (Active, Premium & Mercedes M-Star)

The van-conversion range is tiered into the family-focused, value Fiat Ducato Active models (FL/FG/KB 635, new for 2026 with four belted seats and Isofix), the Premium Fiat Ducato line (Symbol, top-selling Warwick Duo, Kingham, Fairford and Kemerton XL), and the luxury 2-berth Mercedes-Benz Sprinter M-Star. All 2025-on Fiat models gained the Truma Combi Neo heating and continuous hot water as standard.

British craftsmanship, warranty & build quality

Hand-built since 1961 at Willersey near Broadway in the Cotswolds, Auto-Sleepers fits its own GRP-bodied conversions to proven Fiat, Peugeot and Mercedes van bases, with Grade III insulation for all-season touring. Buyers get a 3-year conversion warranty plus a separate 3-year water-ingress warranty (no mileage limit) and access to factory habitation servicing at the NCC-accredited Willersey workshop.

Auto-Sleepers FAQ

Auto-Sleepers are hand-built in the village of Willersey, near Broadway in Worcestershire (the Cotswolds), England. The company was founded in 1961 by the Trevelyan family, who built their first campervan on a Morris van for a family holiday to the South of France. With over 60 years of continuous British manufacturing, it is regarded as one of the UK's most respected motorhome and campervan brands.

Auto-Sleepers has been part of the French leisure-vehicle group Trigano since January 2017, when Trigano took majority control of Auto-Sleepers Investments (ASI). ASI also owns Marquis Leisure, one of Britain's largest motorhome dealer networks, so the manufacturer and dealer arm are corporately linked. Despite the French parent, manufacturing remains firmly UK-based at Willersey.

Current models are built mainly on the Fiat Ducato and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, with the Peugeot Boxer common on older and used stock. Mercedes ranges use the latest Sprinter with a turbo-diesel of around 170 bhp and a 9-speed automatic, while Fiat models use the Ducato 2.2-litre diesel with manual or automatic options. The Ford Transit Custom (Custom Air) is being phased out and is now run-out stock only; all base vehicles are diesel, with no petrol or EV options.

The coachbuilt range includes the Broadway series and compact Nuevo EK Plus (on Peugeot/Fiat), plus the premium Mercedes-based Bourton, Burford and Burford Duo. Campervan conversions split into the entry-level Active range, the Premium range (Symbol, Warwick Duo, Warwick XL, Kingham, Fairford) and the Mercedes M-Star, all largely on the Fiat Ducato. Layouts range from compact 2-berth couples' vans to 4-berth coachbuilts with fixed beds.

The range is heavily weighted toward 2-berth models designed for couples, with a number of 4-berth options for small families. Most have either two or four belted travel seats, and 4-berth models such as the Burford, Fairford and the new Active campervans add Isofix points and family-friendly layouts. An optional pop-up roof on the Active range can add two further berths.

Auto-Sleepers is primarily an ownership brand and does not run its own hire fleet, so renting one is the exception rather than the norm. The most reliable route is peer-to-peer platforms such as Goboony and Camplify, where private owners list their vans (for example a 4-berth conversion from around £89/day), and a few small independent operators stock them too. Major UK rental chains generally run other brands, so you cannot reliably walk up to a big chain and book one.

They are premium, not budget vehicles. Compact campervans and smaller coachbuilts start around £70,000, the core coachbuilt range sits roughly £85,000–£115,000 on the road, and the largest or Mercedes-based luxury models reach £125,000–£135,000 or more. As an example, the Nuevo EK Plus is around £88,000 OTR for 2026, while the Mercedes M-Star campervan starts near £126,000.

Auto-Sleepers use a scratch- and impact-resistant full GRP outer body with bonded, insulated sandwich-panel construction, often on a lightweight galvanised AL-KO chassis, and cite Grade III thermal insulation (the highest EN 1646 grade) on relevant models. The conversion is covered by a 3-year warranty with no mileage restriction, plus an additional 3-year water-ingress warranty, on top of the base vehicle's own cover. The brand is widely reviewed as solidly built and premium, though a few isolated owner complaints about leaks or after-sales service exist anecdotally.

There is an active and liquid second-hand market, with roughly 600 used Auto-Sleepers typically listed across the UK; recent low-mileage examples have ranged from around £59,995 (2023) to £74,995 (2024). The brand's reputation for build quality, British craftsmanship and durable, rot-resistant construction is generally associated with strong resale demand. Note that no verified, brand-specific residual-value percentage is published, so treat precise depreciation claims with caution.

They suit couples and comfort-focused buyers who want refined, hotel-like onboard living and easy-to-drive 2-berth (or family-friendly 4-berth) layouts, rather than rugged off-grid adventuring. Many models offer year-round touring features like good insulation, double glazing and efficient heating, and the brand has won awards such as Best Motorhome for Couples (Burford Duo). Compared with mass-market imported European vans, Auto-Sleepers are pricier but offer British hand-building, a generous water-ingress warranty and factory-backed servicing, appealing to buyers prioritising quality over price.
